Don't Send in the Clowns

The New York Time's Maureen Dowd published a column yesterday that poked fun at Trump's new best friend.

I know that Ms. Dowd is trying to leaven the mood with some humor. It’s not working for me.

The lack of any corrective action by the "co-equal" Congress seems to cede pushing back to comedians. Have we really reached the point where the only thing left to do is send in the clowns? Have we gone too far in taking pot shots at Trump? Is the balloon baby actually an effective response? Are we missing the essential threat that Trump poses?

Given his way, he would have banned muslims, promoted pedophiles into the senate, lauded murdering white supremacists, trashed NATO, broken apart families seeking asylum, and burned down the global trading system. He’s been clear that these are his intentions.

Last week we gave him another pass when he clearly wants to be Putin’s tool. His grasp on reality is so weak that his own staff had to stage an intervention about Russian attacks on our democracy.

It’s not funny anymore.
